A Struggling School Finds Reason for Hope
By Stacy Teicher Khadaroo | The Christian Science Monitor, May 31, 2007

Hope High School Art Community--no longer without hope

One of three smaller schools within Hope High School in Providence Rhode Island, Hope High School Art Community is showing signs of becoming a vibrant learning community.

Stacy Teicher Khadaroo’s Christian Science Monitor report highlights among other changes in the school a new visual arts curriculum. It was developed in conjunction with the proactive community partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design and an advisory system whereby each student meets daily with a staff member.

With increased personal attention from committed and caring adults and a curriculum that draws the students into making connections to their own lives, it is no wonder that it was reported that one teacher overheard students reassuring each other that “This is a good school now!”
